Car ground clearance is the space between the ground and the car itself. Though the tyres helps to maintain the clearance, but the car’s shock-absorbers and other suspension parts also play an important role. SUV’s and trucks are known to have the highest ground clearance because of their off-road abilities. But surprisingly there are sedan cars that have pre-factory configured ground clearance. We will be looking at these sedans below.
2019 Dodge Charger SXT AWD
The 2019 Dodge Charger comes in a variety of trim levels, and one designed for ground clearance is the SXT AWD trim. This Charger sedan still seats five passengers behind four doors, but it drives all four wheels and sits just a little higher than some of the sportier models. The Charger SXT AWD comes with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, paired up with an 8-speed automatic transmission. With 300 hp on tap, the Charger has the performance you expect from a Dodge, and it’s ready for any terrain you throw at it.
2019 Kia Soul
The plucky 2019 Kia Soul urban hauler hatchback is a front-wheel-drive vehicle with a little extra ride height compared to a typical sedan. You can order up a Soul with your choice of several engines, and with a manual or automatic transmission. There’s even a turbocharged model if you want the fastest Soul on the block. With oversize front doors and 5.9 inches of clearance underneath, getting into and out of the Soul is easy.
2019 Audi A4 Allroad
The 2019 Audi A4 Allroad is the latest Audi to bear the Allroad name. The Allroad design bridges the gap between a passenger car and a crossover. It has a wagon body, but it rides on the A4 passenger car platform. Ground clearance on the Allroad is 6.5 inches, about 1.3 inches higher than a standard A4 sedan.
2018 Volvo S60 Cross Country
One of the true raised ground clearance sedans is the 2018 Volvo S60 Cross Country. Volvo also offers the 2018 V60 wagon and the 2019 V90 wagon in raised Cross Country models. The 2018 S60 Cross Country features 7.9 inches of ground clearance, along with special fender extensions and scuff plates to handle off-pavement driving. The S60 Cross Country also features hill descent control like an SUV.
2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
One of the most sophisticated sedans with raised ride height is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The E-Class uses an optional adaptive air suspension to soak up rough roads. The AIRMATIC system, as Mercedes calls it, allows the driver to raise the ride height for off-pavement maneuvers, and then the E-Class will automatically drop itself down again when the car reaches freeway speeds.
