Inside Barack Obama’s Personal Life: Cars He Privately Owned And Drove

Lyndon Johnson was the last U.S. president to drive on public roads. Though the rule is not law, it’s highly enforced by the secret service and all parties seem to adhere. As a recent former president, it’s going to be a while until President Obama gets to drive any car. Right now, he’s under the protection of the secret service and will be for life, meaning that they drive him around wherever he needs to go. But if he does take driving up again, I would like to think he would drive something vintage. This been said, it doesn’t mean the Commander in Chief never owned a car or drove one.

Before he decided to run for president, Barrack Obama could be seen tooling around Chicago in a HEMI V8-powered 2005 Chrysler 300C. When he started his run for president, Obama traded the Chrysler for a far more fuel-efficient 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. The Escape hardly had any miles on it when the U.S. Secret Service took over the driving duties for the future president. A later owner of Obama’s Chrysler unsuccessfully attempted to auction it for a starting bid of $1 million.

When it comes to the cool car factor, Obama was out shined by Vice-President Joe Biden, who owns a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette. Biden received the car as a wedding present from his father.
