What To Do When Your Car Breaks Down In An Isolated Area

This is one of the most dreaded situation drivers would ever want to find themselves but it’s bound to happen at any given time, so if this does happen, how do you have it under control? Here are some useful tips to help you get prepared.

1.) Don’t panic

It can be so easy to enter that downward spiral of fear and anger when your car breaks down. Not only does it affect your mood, it also wastes valuable time. So relax! you can’t think straight when you panic.

2.) Assess the situation

Are you in a safe place? Can you pull off the road? Is anyone injured? Take stock of the situation. In many cases, this will mean pulling off onto the shoulder of the road. It’s important to carry a torch light in your car at all times because there’s no telling when you may need it, especially at night.

3.) Take action

Whether it’s changing your tire out, waving someone down, or calling for help, once you know the gravity of the situation it’s time to do something about it. If you have service bars on your mobile phone, use it to make a call if necessary.

4.) Be wary, but gracious of strangers

Approach each Good Samaritan with equal amounts of suspicion and relief. If there’s any form of assistance they can render, accept but always be on your guard.  It’s important to remember the general sense of goodwill that people bring to the table — but it’s equally important to be sensible, aware, and prepared.

5.) Be prepared to wait

This is where patience rules, it’s certainly a situation you’ll have no choice but to wait. It could take from minutes to hours to days before help will come, so condition your mind to this. Make yourself resourceful and always be on guard.

6.) Find the humour in the situation

This will greatly help your mental state. Given the choice between crying and laughing, laughter is usually the best choice. As boring, aggravating, and anxiety-inducing as the situation maybe, look for how to keep yourself entertained while you wait.
