What to Do if Your Car Hits a Pedestrian

If you have hit a pedestrian, it is crucial to call for help and an ambulance. You should also take care of the person who has been hit and ensure that they are safe. If you are not sure what to do, don’t panic and run. It is an extreme criminal offense to hit and run. In a serious case, if someone has been hit by your car it is best not to move them from where they were hit unless there is an immediate danger such as oncoming traffic, a fire or explosion nearby. The reason for this is to prevent severe complications like paralysis should there be a spinal cord injury.

Your first response is to apply first aid to the injured person. It is important to have a first aid kit handy in your car at all times. If you are taking the injured person to hospital, make sure that they are wearing a seatbelt and try to avoid bumpy roads or sharp turns. You should also make sure that their head is supported at all times and they are in a comfortable position.

In a case of minor injury apply first aid, if possible stay till you are sure they are okay, exchange contact information with them and apologize for your mistake.
